An iPhone, Crayons, and a Hairdryer

Starting at The End

A couple of weeks ago I called a friend frantically asking if she had a hairdryer. In hindsight, asking a lady if she has a hairdryer is firstly fishy and secondly stupid – of course she did. When she asked “Why!?” I responded with … “because I have crayons!” … spiralling that conversation into a very deep philosophical silence ending in a loud unspoken #dafuq.

The story unfolded and what became of that random exchange is in the picture above.

So lets add some sense to all this madness.

SnapGuide

SnapGuide is quickly becoming a favourite on my iPhone home screen. It’s a brilliant cross between VideoJug.com, WikiHow.com, and well I guess instagram.

“SnapGuide is a free iOS app and web service for passionate, creative people and DIY enthusiasts. Share and discover beautiful, step-by-step how to guides.”

Some of our friends are already using SnapGuide including @Basma_13cups of 13cups.com and @rotsu ~

The design is sleek, simple, and search oriented. More importantly, the content is fun and the varieties are endless. I tapped into one of the guides and the child gremlin in me wanted to come out and play. There it was … “How to make melted crayons with a hairdryer” … yes … o.o epic yes …

The car ignition was already on by the time I got to the last step of the guide. Drove to jam3iyat mishref

and picked up some stationary then picked up some stuff around Dasman and called the friend asking “Do you have a hairdryer!?” … starting to make sense?

Crayons and a Hairdryer
The steps for doing this are charmingly simple.

The pictures show the instructions in order and explained in 5 points below:

  1. You will need Crayola crayons (or similar oil based colours), glue, a hairdryer, a canvas, and somewhere you can make a mess in.
  2. Glue your Crayola crayons onto the canvas
  3. Optionally, you can put a stencil in like the word “Hope” or the Umbrella man in our pictures
  4. Blow dry the crayons. Be patient – it will seem like nothing is happening for a while
  5. Remove the stencil and feel awesome … very awesome

It’s a messy process so be sure to cover yourself, your walls, your floors and anything else you can cover. Ended up having to take some clothes to the big boys at the dry cleaners who laughed at the wreck of a laundry pile.

If you are really good and patient (unlike us) you can come up with beautiful results like the ones shown on Snapguide. If you want details on how to create the black stencil and how to make the crayons melt around the stencil, download the app!

~ also just in case I get told off again, this was a team effort thanks DM! (where my #qooqie at!?)
