Well, I didn’t spend a lot of time here BUT, I got to find and save so many things! I started off by finding speciality coffee places since its was raining (my visit is in March 2023!)

Lets explore!

Neighborhoods:

I walked around and liked the Northern Quarter. This trendy neighborhood is full of independent shops, cafes, and street art. It’s a great place to wander around and soak up the atmosphere. The street art is constantly changing, so there’s always something new to see.

Spinningfields: This modern business district is home to some of Manchester ’s best restaurants and shops. It’s a great place to go for a fancy dinner or to do some high-end shopping.

Castlefield: This historic neighborhood is home to some of Manchester’s oldest buildings and has a beautiful canal running through it. It’s a great place to go for a walk and take in the city’s history and architecture.

Ancoats: This former industrial area has been transformed into a trendy neighborhood with a thriving food scene. It’s a great place to go for brunch or to try some of Manchester’s best street food.

Chorlton: This leafy suburb is known for its independent shops, bars, and restaurants. It’s a great place to go for a relaxed afternoon stroll and to check out some of the city’s best vegetarian and vegan eateries.

Didsbury: This upmarket suburb is home to some of Manchester’s wealthiest residents and has a charming village-like feel. It’s a great place to go for a coffee or a spot of shopping.

Speciality Coffee/Cafes

Brunch/Breakfast

  • Federal Cafe Bar: Located in the Northern Quarter, Federal Cafe Bar is a popular spot for brunch, serving a range of dishes such as smashed avocado on toast, shakshuka, and pancakes.

  • Koffee Pot: This popular breakfast and brunch spot is located in the city center and serves a range of classic dishes, such as a full English breakfast, eggs benedict, and pancakes.

  • Evelyn’s Cafe Bar: Located in the Northern Quarter, Evelyn’s Cafe Bar serves a range of brunch dishes with a Mediterranean twist, such as Turkish eggs, shakshuka, and sourdough toast with labneh.

  • Moose Coffee: This American-style diner in the city center serves a range of hearty breakfast and brunch dishes, such as buttermilk pancakes, waffles, and breakfast burritos.

Lunch and dinner:

  • Maray, 14 Brazennose Street — Liverpool-born, now a genuine Manchester favourite. Middle Eastern/Mediterranean small plates, built for sharing, strong vegetarian/vegan range.

Italian:

  • San Carlo: A chic Italian restaurant known for its outstanding seafood dishes, handmade pasta, and classic Italian cuisine. The elegant decor and attentive service create an upscale dining experience.

    Steakhouse

    • Hawksmoor Manchester: Renowned for its high-quality steaks and sustainable sourcing practices, Hawksmoor offers an exceptional dining experience in a luxurious setting with a glamorous 1920s-inspired interior.
    • Flat Iron – specialises in featherblade steak done simply and well, with sides like beef dripping chips, truffled mac & cheese and crispy bone marrow mash. Concise, confident menu, daily wagyu specials. 
    • Fazenda — Spinningfields. Brazilian rodizio-style — waiters circle with skewer after skewer of meat (sirloin, ribeye, picanha) plus a big salad/charcuterie bar. High-glam, all-you-can-eat format
    • Etci Mehmet — near Oxford Road. Turkish steakhouse, 28-day-aged steaks with Mediterranean sides

    Indian:

    • Asha’s: An upscale Indian restaurant that offers an innovative fusion of traditional Indian flavors and contemporary presentation.
    • Dishoom — Bombay Irani café-inspired,
    • Delhi House Cafe — Corn Exchange, family-run, modern Indian that leans into what India actually eats today rather than the usual UK curry-house formula

    Japanese:

    • Sapporo Teppanyaki: This popular teppanyaki restaurant provides an interactive dining experience, with skilled chefs preparing dishes in front of you on a hot iron griddle. The menu includes sushi, sashimi, tempura, and various teppanyaki options.

    • Yuzu: A cozy and authentic Japanese restaurant, Yuzu offers a range of traditional dishes, including sushi, sashimi, katsu, and tempura.
    • Sticks’n’Sushi, Spinningfields — new opening bringing Japanese craftsmanship with Scandinavian design, two floors plus a pergola terrace. Beautifully plated sushi, yakitori sticks off the grill.
    • One Sushi, run by chef Eddie who trained at a two-Michelin-star restaurant in Hong Kong — proper counter-style omakase, more intimate/insider than Sticks’n’Sushi.)
